The Bluegrass State is known as the Bourbon Capital of the World. A short trip in any direction from my shop or home will eventually land you at one of our renown bourbon distilleries. The distilling process to create bourbon requires the corn whiskey (min 51% corn) to be aged in charred White Oak barrels. The barrels are then stored and aged in rickhouses/ rackhouses for several years. Once the spirits have aged to the distillers liking, the used barrels are no longer allowed to be used for bourbon production again. As a result, the used bourbon barrels and their components are a readily available resource to Kentuckians. After years of seeing stacks of deconstructed barrels in a good friends barn, I decided to work with them one day in an attempt to transform them into something useful. Here we are!
These bourbon barrel stave bottle openers are not only a neat piece of regional history, they're functional, solid and sure to upgrade your barware or gift giving game! Each reclaimed piece has been thoroughly cleaned (removed excess charring), hand-cut, sanded, finished in a proprietary handrubbed poly coating and married to premium hardware in either Chrome or Gunmetal finish.
Select your option of: W/ Croze Groove (portion at end of each stave used to lock in barrel heads) or Sans Groove (rectangular and usually thicker/wider) from the drop-down menu.
Select your hardware finish: Chrome (High Sheen Metallic) or Gunmetal (resembles Black Stainless Steel).
These are reclaimed/ recycled pieces that have had a lot of love and thought put into them. They are each slightly different and unique, but most average 7"l x 1- 1.5"w x 1" thick. They make perfect gifts for bourbon connoisseurs, beer aficionados, groomsmen, birthdays, wedding gifts, graduation gifts or even for yourself to pop the top off of your favorite beverages!
